The Chatham High School Students Against Cancer Club is excited to announce Chatham’s first annual Cougars Against Cancer Event. Teaming up with Bailey's Warriors, a local nonprofit organization supporting cancer research and treatment at Memorial Sloan Kettering, the two groups will be hosting a free night for community cancer awareness at Chatham High School on December 4th, from 7:00-9:00 PM.
Bailey's Warriors was founded in honor of Bailey Buell, a brave young girl from Chatham who recently lost her battle with cancer. The nonprofit helps fund critical cancer research and treatments to support those in need, with proceeds directed to Memorial Sloan Kettering, one of the nation’s premier cancer treatment and research centers.
“This evening is meant to remind people that coming together as a community in support of one another can make the biggest impacts,” said CHS club member Aimee Butler.
The night will begin with tables featuring games, informational tables run by Students Against Cancer representatives, a swab event - attendees ages 18 and older the opportunity to test and join the registry for becoming a potential lifesaving donor/match - as well as bake sales, merchandise, donation opportunities, and more.
Moving into the auditorium, there will be a performance by Chatham-student band, The Still Unknown, leading to presentations by four guest speakers volunteering to share their stories of battling, beating, and researching cancer.
“We hope to see a strong turnout,” added AJ George, a member of the club's executive board. “Together, we can make a real difference in the lives of those battling cancer and further the mission of Bailey’s Warriors.”
