The Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) Club at the Chatham High School recently visited the New York Stock Exchange on Wall Street. Club officers Diya Gupta, Siena Wong, Kayla Murray, and Aditya Sinha co-organized the trip, attended by 20 students and their advisors Mr. John Ahsler and Mr. Peter Steinmetz.

During the trip, club members enjoyed the immersive, real-world experience and utilized prior investment knowledge while getting insight into a higher level of study. The NYSE serves as a long-term US economic landmark and a current-day institution as a marketplace for investors to raise capital. Through our personal tour, guided by Mr. Anthony Zawadzki, Head of Proprietary Data for the New York Stock Exchange, the organizers aimed to spark future interest in business students participating in the event.

Reflecting the thoughts of students, club member Ben Alterman said, “I thought it was very cool how we walked around Wall Street and were there for the opening bell. I appreciated meeting Mr. Zawadzki and also meeting somebody with a large amount of authority in the NYSE who took time to educate students.”

Furthermore, following the visit to NYSE, students attended a MBA level lecture at NYU Stern School of Business. Delivered by professor of f

inance, Dr. Aswath Damodaran, the lecture covered advanced topics in economics, accounting & valuations.

Officer Kayla Murray remarks, “My understanding of sunk and allocated costs grew from the NYU Lecture. Professor Damodaran was outstanding from the way he explained the mechanics of investment analysis to keeping us engaged.”

Overall, it was a successful trip, filled with many good memories.  We hope to plan this trip for future students for years to come.
