District Art Show May 22 & 23 6:30 -8:30 Chatham Middle School

The School District of the Chathams will hold its annual K-12 Art Show on Monday, May 23rd & Tuesday, May 24th from 6:30-8:30 p.m. in the Chatham Middle School upper gymnasium. The district art teachers are excited to be back in person this year after a 2 year hiatus due to the pandemic. Artwork from over 800 district students representing grades K-12 will be on display.

Pieces span a wide variety of media including painting, drawing, paper mache, plaster, ceramics, jewelry, collage, metal works, printmaking, computer graphics and mixed media. Upper Elementary Students will be demonstrating printmaking and paper mache techniques.  High School Art Interns will man sand art & watercolor tables for artists of all ages to participate in.

The opening night reception will include light refreshments, and door prizes.  Professional guest judges will select awards for excellence in grades 6-12.

On the second night of the show, there will be a “Best in Show” award presented to students in each upper grade level, one for a two-dimensional composition, and one for a three-dimensional work.

SDOC Art teachers Kenji Hasegawa,  Janet Kraemer, Katrina Keeshen, Tracy Kovacsofsky, Candace Hull, Eric Hreha, Keiko Shimizu, and Kiera Spadaro have been saving student work since September, and have been working to make the event one to remember.

In the inaugural year (2017), the Chatham Education Foundation generously granted the teachers with forty professional display panels to help make this annual event possible.

The public is welcome, and admission is free.
