The Cougar Crew Mentoring Program was in full swing during CMS’s Week of Respect! 🌟 Eighth-grade students teamed up with fifth graders to build connections, encourage kindness, and reinforce the importance of treating everyone with respect.
It’s wonderful to see our older Cougars leading by example and helping our younger students feel supported and included! 💙🙌

🌟 CMS Champs: Celebrating Character, Merit & Service! 🌟

C is for Character! 💙
M is for Merit! 🏆
S is for Service! 🤝

We’re excited to introduce CMS Champs, a brand-new school-wide recognition program celebrating the great things happening every day at Chatham Middle School!

Students earn points from staff for demonstrating Character, Merit, and Service, while staff are also recognized for encouraging and celebrating these positive actions. Throughout the year, students and staff can earn special recognition, prizes, and work together toward exciting school-wide milestone rewards!

🌟 Each month, one student from each grade and one staff member will be named CMS Champ of the Month based on points earned.

CMS Champs shines a spotlight on the students and staff who help make CMS such a positive place to learn, grow, and make a difference! 💙

🎉Congratulations to CMS Champs Cup for September.

We’re proud to spotlight Kristen Crawford, Principal of Milton Avenue School, who was recently invited by Bob Lay, CEO of the National Science Teaching Association to a Congressional Fly-In!

Kristen’s experience included opportunities to learn about current issues affecting science and mathematics education, including legislation, funding, and plans for FY 2027.

During her time in Washington, D.C., she joined fellow educators for 27 meetings on Capitol Hill, meeting with staff from congressional and Senate offices—including representatives from New Jersey—to advocate for continued support of Title IV funding, the restoration of Title II funding, and efforts to address the ongoing science teacher shortage.

And, in true Chatham fashion, Kristen made sure to extend an invitation to visit Milton Avenue School for Earth Day and explore Kelly’s Pond! 🌎🌱

🍋💛 CMS was proud to participate in Lemonade Day in support of the fight against childhood cancer through the Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation!

Our incredible 7th & 8th Grade Peer Leaders partnered with Mr. Harte’s class to turn compassion into action—and what an amazing day it was! Together, students sold more than 800 cups of lemonade and countless cookies, raising funds for a truly meaningful cause.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who stopped by, donated, and supported this effort. Most of all, we are proud of our students for demonstrating the power of service, leadership, and community. Their kindness and teamwork show that when we come together, we can make a real difference. 💛🍋

🎶🌟 Big news from CMS!

Four Chatham Middle School students have been selected for the NJ All-State Choir—an incredible honor! Congratulations to:
👏 Annabelle Palmer (8th)
👏 Colleen Riley (7th)
👏 Ceci Young (7th)
👏 Tess Nolan (6th)

Chosen from a highly competitive pool of over 275 auditions, fewer than half of the students were selected—and our CMS singers didn’t just make it, they ranked in the top half of their sections! 🎉

The All-State Choir (grades 4–6 and 7–9) rehearsed on April 25 and will perform on May 2 in Flemington, NJ.

🎤 Way to represent CMS with talent and dedication!

💚 May is Mental Health Awareness Month 💚
The SDOC is coming together as one community to recognize and support mental health.
To kick off the month, students and staff are wearing green—the color of mental health awareness—on May 1. 💚
In addition, the exterior of CHS will be illuminated in green as part of the Mental Health Association of New Jersey’s “Light It Up Green” initiative, in collaboration with the Chatham Wellness Committee.
Let’s continue to raise awareness, show support, and remind one another that mental health matters—every day.
