    How to Apply for Certification

    Standard Certificates (New Jersey Residents)

    1. Applicants in approved teacher education programs
      Complete application through your college. Applications are available from the College Certification Office.

    2. Applicants for Alternate Route (Provisional Teacher Program)
      If you have not completed teacher preparation in a traditional college program, application for certification should be made through the Office of Licensing and Academic Credentials, NJ State Department of Education, CN 500, Trenton, NJ 08625.

    Out-Of-State residents

    Apply through the Office of Licensing and Academic Credentials, NJ State Department of Education, CN 500, Trenton, NJ 08625.

    County Substitute Certificate

    Apply through school district Human Resources Office when registering to substitute teach.
