K-5 Library/Media Department Awarded CEF Grant for Student Book Publishing

The Chatham Education Foundation awarded our K-5 library media centers a grant to purchase book binding systems. These book binding systems provide our library/media specialists with an opportunity to showcase student writers by binding their stories into hardcover and softcover books that are added to our library collections.
As our students develop as writers, they crave a way in which to share their writing with their peers and larger school community. Historically, we have stapled the pages of their writing together and put them on display in the library media centers (LMCs). The purchase of these book binding systems enabled us to create a “Student Authors” section in the elementary LMCs which house “published” versions of our students’ work that is professionally bound, cataloged, and barcoded so they can be borrowed by their peers. The book binding systems also can be used to help us with repairing books in our collections!
