• Sophomore Year
     
    Semester 1
    • Review your high school course plans and think about elective interests.
    • Get involved in co-curricular activities.
    • Register for and take the AP exams
    • Consider registering with School Counseling department for Pre-Act. 
    • Attend college fairs in your area. Learn about college costs and how financial aid works. 
    • Consider attending College Planning evening program hosted by School Counseling department. 
     
    Semester 2
     
    • Meet with your teachers to discuss course level requests for next year.
    • Take the PSAT 10 at CHS in March.
    • Review the program of studies and elective video commercials.(21st Century, Visual & Performing Arts)
    • Select your elective courses in the Parent Portal.
    • Meet with your counselor to finalize your schedule for next year. Consider graduation requirements and NCAA eligibility if you are considering playing a sport in college.
    • Take the NJSLA assessments.
    • Complete Career Interest Profiler in Naviance Student and explore potential careers. 
    • If enrolled in advanced courses, discuss with your teacher or counselor about registering for SAT Subject Tests.
    • Research summer programs, volunteer opportunities or employment. 
    • Plan college visits. 
    • Find out about any summer assignments required for next year's classes.  
    • Research opportunities for SAT or ACT prep work over the summer. 
    • Consider attending the Junior Parent College Search Presentation and/or our Spring presentation (guest speaker, admissions panel etc..)
    • Attend our Parent Panel Discussion regarding the college process
    • Visit the college and career room to attend career visits or explore potential areas of interest.
