    Science Course Profiles

As we shift from the former NJCCCS Science standards to the New Jersey Student Learning Standards in science based on the Next Generation Science Standards we understand that major changes in education are occurring at the national level. As these new standards are cognitively demanding, teachers must make instructional shifts to enable all students to be college and career ready. The NGSS are building on the National Research Council’s consensus reports in recent years, including Taking Science to School (2007) and its companion report for practitioners Ready, Set, Science! (2008), Learning Science in Informal Environments (2009), and most notably A Framework for K-12 Science Education (2012). These reports consistently highlight that, when provided with equitable learning opportunities, students from diverse backgrounds are capable of engaging in scientific practices and constructing meaning in both science classrooms and informal settings.

Therefore we promote All Standards, All Students. Each student taking science courses at Chatham High School, regardless of the level, will follow the same curricular standards. The content, projects and class experiences will vary depending upon the level that a student enrolls.
